Emotional release techniques for when you’ve been holding it all in

The tears that won’t come. The anger with nowhere to go. The heaviness in your chest that won’t quite move. If you’ve been holding it all in for so long you’ve gone a little numb, you’re not broken, and you’re not alone. What the body couldn’t safely feel, it stored — and it can be gently released, in person in Maple Ridge or online.

Holding it together for this long took everything you had.

Maybe you can’t remember the last time you really cried. Maybe you feel flat, or heavy, or like there’s a pressure behind your ribs that never quite releases. Feeling emotionally stuck doesn’t mean you’re cold or broken — it usually means you learned, somewhere along the way, that it wasn’t safe to fall apart. So you held it. And holding it that long is its own kind of exhausting.

You might recognize this if…

  • You can’t remember the last time you really cried
  • There’s a heaviness in your chest that won’t shift
  • You’ve held it together so long you’ve gone a little numb
  • Feelings feel stuck, with nowhere to go
  • “Just let it out” doesn’t work on command

Emotions that had nowhere to go don’t disappear. They get stored.

When it isn’t safe to feel something fully, the body does the next best thing: it holds it, tucks it away, and waits. Over time those trapped emotions settle in as tension, numbness, fatigue — a low hum of heaviness you can’t quite name.

That’s why “just let it out” doesn’t work on command, and why pushing yourself to feel can backfire. Releasing trapped emotions isn’t about forcing a breakdown. It’s about giving your body enough safety that what it’s been holding can finally move.

Release happens through safety, not force.

You can’t will an emotion to move, and you don’t have to perform one either. Emotional release healing works when your nervous system feels safe enough to loosen its grip, so what you’ve carried can rise and pass in its own time.

That’s the heart of my work — trauma-informed Reiki and gentle guided practice that make space for feeling without pressure or overwhelm. Nothing forced, nothing you have to explain. For a deeper, unhurried hour, the 1-Hour Reiki Energy Reset gives more room to let go.

Hi, I’m Tracy

I’m a Certified Reiki Master Teacher based in Maple Ridge, BC, and my work is trauma-informed and rooted in nervous system safety. I came to this the long way, through my own recovery — so I know what it’s like to carry years of feeling with nowhere to set it down, and how gently it can finally move.

Today I help people here in the Fraser Valley and online, wherever they are, release what they’ve been holding and come back to themselves. Sessions are gentle, at your pace, and never rushed.

Questions people ask before they start

What are emotional release techniques?

They’re gentle ways to help feelings your body has been holding move and pass — through breath, guided practice, energy work, and above all a felt sense of safety. Real emotional release isn’t a dramatic breakdown; it’s your system finally trusting that it’s safe to let go.

How do I release stuck or trapped emotions?

Not by forcing them. Trapped emotions move when the body feels safe enough to loosen its grip, so the work is to build that safety first — gently, and at your pace. From there, feelings tend to rise and pass on their own, without you having to push or perform anything.

Can Reiki help release emotions stored in the body?

Yes. Reiki and guided practice calm the nervous system and create a sense of safety, which is exactly what lets held emotion soften and move. It’s a gentle complement to any other support you have, not a quick fix — and many people feel lighter after a single session.

Is this a replacement for therapy or medical care?

No. Energy healing and guided meditation are a gentle complement to the care you already have, not a substitute for medical or mental-health treatment. If you’re in crisis, please reach out to your doctor or a crisis line.

I’m new to this and have a trauma history — is it safe?

Yes. Everything is trauma-informed and gently paced, and most people come in brand new to this. There’s no forcing and nothing to relive. You stay in control the whole time, and you can pause or stop whenever you need to.

You’re allowed to set it down.
